Before looking at specific banks, it’s worth being clear about a structural point: Indian “education loan” and “study abroad loan” products are built around admission to a recognized degree, diploma or professional course at a listed institution. Ausbildung is different — it’s an employer apprenticeship contract combined with vocational school, and you are paid a wage rather than paying tuition. That mismatch matters, so read the eligibility wording carefully rather than assuming a standard “study abroad loan” automatically applies.
What these loans are more realistically useful for
Since Ausbildung itself pays you rather than charging tuition, an education loan — if you can get one approved for this purpose — is more likely to be used to cover the up-front, one-off costs before your first paycheck: visa fee, flight, rental deposit, and (if applicable) a blocked account or language course. See our full cost breakdown for what those actually add up to. Confirm with the bank directly whether they’ll finance an Ausbildung placement at all before applying — don’t assume.
State Bank of India — Global Ed-Vantage scheme
SBI’s Global Ed-Vantage scheme, checked directly on SBI’s own interest-rate page this session, lists the following rates for loans to study at select overseas institutions:
| Loan amount | Collateral | Interest rate |
|---|---|---|
| Above ₹7.50 lakh to ₹50 lakh | Without collateral | 9.40% |
| Above ₹7.50 lakh to ₹3 crore | With collateral | 8.90% |
SBI’s page did not specify whether German Ausbildung placements or German vocational-training institutions fall within its “select institutions” list for this scheme — you would need to confirm this directly with an SBI branch or via the bank’s official education loan portal before assuming eligibility.
Bank of Baroda — Baroda Scholar scheme
Bank of Baroda’s official education loan page, checked this session, lists rates linked to its benchmark lending rate (BRLLR):
| Purpose | Rate | Maximum loan |
|---|---|---|
| Study in India | BRLLR + 0.25% | Up to ₹125 lakh |
| Study abroad | BRLLR + 1.75% | Up to ₹150 lakh |
Bank of Baroda’s own page explicitly frames this product around degree and professional courses — MBA, MCA, MS, medical courses, “graduation, post-graduation, or any other professional courses” — and requires “confirmed admission in recognized educational institutes.” There is no mention of vocational apprenticeship placements. This doesn’t necessarily rule Ausbildung out, but it means you should not assume standard eligibility; ask the branch directly how they’d classify an Ausbildungsvertrag before applying.
What we’re not telling you
We’re not naming a specific interest rate as “the” rate for financing Ausbildung, because neither bank’s published materials confirmed Ausbildung eligibility this session, and rates on both schemes are pegged to a floating benchmark rate that changes over time — always check the bank’s current published rate, not a number quoted secondhand. We’re also not recommending one bank over the other; these are simply the two options we were able to verify pricing for directly from official sources this session.

The most common reason applicants need this kind of financing is to cover a blocked account deposit — see that guide for the current threshold and whether you need one at all.
Before you apply
- Ask explicitly whether the bank’s overseas education loan product covers a German Ausbildung / vocational training placement, not just university admission.
- Get the current effective rate in writing — both schemes above are pegged to a floating base rate that moves.
- Compare the loan amount you’d actually need (likely the smaller up-front costs in our cost breakdown) against whether a smaller personal loan product might be more appropriate and cheaper than a large study-abroad loan structured for tuition-paying students.
